カンザス州の中絶医が教会で射殺、大統領が非難声明発表
（ＣＮＮ） 米カンザス州ウィチタ市内の教会で５月３１日午前１０時過ぎ、人工中絶手術を行う産婦人科医が銃撃され、死亡した。警察が明らかにした。
死亡したジョージ・ティラー医師は妊娠後期の中絶手術を行う米国でも数少ない医師の１人で、１６年前にも自身の診療所付近で銃撃された。この日は教会の案内係を務めていたところを襲われ、教会の入口付近で遺体が発見された。
警察は犯人の車の特徴に関する目撃情報を元に、事件発生から３時間後、カンザスシティー在住の男（５１）を容疑者として拘束した。犯行の動機は今のところ不明。
オバマ米大統領は声明を発表し、「中絶のような難しい問題をめぐる国民の溝がどれほど深いとしても、暴力という凶悪手段で解決することはできない」と事件を厳しく批判した。また司法省によると、ホルダー司法長官は連邦裁判所の執行官らに対し、中絶反対派の標的になる恐れがある人々や施設の保護を指示した。
1980年代から1990年代にかけても、同様の反中絶テロが相次いだものです。ブッシュ政権のあいだはなりを潜めていたのに、形勢不利となったとたんに暴力発動……。つい先日、清水邦彦先生の水子供養の講演で見たプロライフの暴力を報じるテレビドキュメンタリーに対して、ここ十数年はそうした事件は起きていないと指摘したのになぁ。オバマ政権のリベラルな中絶政策が進められているなかで、暴力再来の恐れは予測しておいてしかるべきでした……。

George Richard Tiller (August 8, 1941 – May 31, 2009[1][2]) was a physician from Wichita, Kansas in the United States. He was the medical director of a women's health care clinic in Wichita, Women's Health Care Services, one of only three nationwide which would provide abortion after the 21st week of pregnancy (known as late-term abortion).[3] Some of Tiller's patients discovered late in pregnancy that their fetuses had severe or fatal birth defects, but he also aborted healthy late-term fetuses in cases where this would prevent "substantial and irreversible impairment of a major bodily function" for the mother.[4]
Tiller was targeted by violent extremists as well as other opponents.[2] Abortion opponents kept a daily vigil outside his clinic.[2] On August 19, 1993, he was shot in both arms outside of the Wichita clinic by Shelley Shannon, who received an 11-year prison sentence for the crime.[5][6][7] On May 31, 2009, Tiller was shot to death as he served as an usher during Evangelical Lutheran Church in America services.[8]

ついでですが、"Anti-abortion violence"という言い方は知っていたけど、"Christian terrorism"とか、"Domestic terrorism in the United States"という言い方もあるんですね。
ただ、ここで誤解してはいけないのは、プロライフ派の皆が皆、こうした暴力を肯定しているというわけではないということ。むしろこういう過激派に対して批判的な人が多いということは押さえておきましょう。
