France and China this week approved marketing of a new drug that induces abortion early in pregnancy, and two family planning experts said they believed an American company would soon apply for permission to market the drug in the United States.

Richard Glasow, education director of National Right to Life in Washington, said the group is encouraging anti-abortion groups in France to protest the marketing of RU 486, known as Mifegyne in France. The group has also written to the French Ambassador to the United States threatening a worldwide boycott of all products of Roussel-Uclaf and its parent company, Hoescht Pharmaceuticals of Germany.
''If such a massive boycott by right-to-life organizations, church groups with strong pro-life positions, and pro-life hospitals were to be initiated, any profits from the drug would be swallowed up many times over by the loss of business,'' the group said in its letter.
Dr. Glasow explained that National Right to Life considers RU 486 to be a ''death drug'' because it induces abortions. The group opposes all pregnancy terminations.
